Why Display Advertising Works: The Advantages of Going Bold

Oklahoma's Choice Weekly Logo

Why Display Advertising Works: The Advantages of Going Bold

When it comes to promoting your business, display advertising in Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly is one of the most impactful tools in your marketing toolbox. Display ads go beyond the standard classified format, giving you the space and creativity to tell your story, showcase your brand, and grab your audience’s attention.

If you’ve ever wondered what makes display advertising so effective, or how it can help your business stand out, let’s break it down.

1. Big, Bold, and Unmissable

Unlike classified ads, display advertising commands attention. With eye-catching graphics, custom layouts, and larger ad space, your message is impossible to miss. Readers flipping through Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly will immediately notice your ad, giving you the opportunity to make a strong impression.

Display ads are perfect for promoting:

  • Grand openings
  • Sales and special promotions
  • New products or services
  • Upcoming events

When your ad stands out, your business stands out.

2. Showcase Your Brand

Display advertising gives you the room to tell your story and showcase your brand’s unique personality. You’re not limited to a few lines of text—you can include logos, images, colors, and fonts that reflect your brand identity.

This helps readers recognize and remember your business, building trust and familiarity over time. Whether you’re promoting a seasonal sale or introducing a new service, a well-designed display ad creates a lasting impression.

3. Flexibility and Creativity

One of the greatest advantages of display advertising is the flexibility to create an ad that suits your needs. In Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, you can choose from various sizes and formats, allowing you to customize your ad to fit your goals.

  • Want to promote a big sale? Choose a full-page ad to make a bold statement.
  • Want to highlight an event? A half-page or quarter-page ad is perfect for packing in the details.
  • Need something small but impactful? A banner ad can draw attention to a specific product or service.

Display advertising lets you think outside the box and connect with your audience in creative ways.

4. Targeted Local Reach

One of the biggest benefits of advertising in Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly is our hyper-local focus. Our publication is distributed across 14 counties, reaching readers who live and shop in your community.

When you invest in display advertising, you’re reaching people who are already looking for businesses like yours. Whether you run a local restaurant, retail store, or service-based business, display ads put your message directly in front of your ideal customers.

5. Build Credibility and Trust

Advertising in a trusted publication like Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly automatically enhances your credibility.

A well-placed display ad says, “We’re here, we’re established, and we’re ready to serve you.” This trust is invaluable, especially for small and local businesses.

6. A Long Shelf Life

Unlike digital ads that can disappear in seconds, print ads have staying power. Readers often keep their copies of Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly for days or even weeks, referring back to them for deals, services, and events.

This extended visibility gives your display ad more chances to be seen, remembered, and acted upon.

7. Complements Digital Marketing

Display advertising works beautifully alongside your digital marketing efforts. A print ad can drive readers to your website, social media, or online store, bridging the gap between offline and online marketing.

Including a simple call-to-action like “Visit us online at [yourwebsite.com]” or “Follow us on Facebook” encourages readers to connect with you on multiple platforms.

Why Choose Display Advertising in Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly?

At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we make display advertising easy and effective. Our team can help you design a visually stunning ad that highlights your message and connects with your audience. With affordable rates, flexible options, and a trusted distribution network, we’re here to help your business succeed.

How to Write a Classified Ad That Sells

How to Write a Classified Ad That Sells

Classified ads are one of the simplest and most effective ways to connect with buyers, promote your business, or share services. At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we make it even easier with FREE classified ads up to 30 words! If you’re looking to create a classified ad that stands out and gets results, here’s how to do it right.

Start with a Strong Headline

Your headline is the first thing readers see, so make it count. Be specific and clear about what you’re offering. A good headline draws attention and encourages readers to keep reading.

Examples:

“Affordable Lawn Mowing Services – Call Today!”

“For Sale: 2018 Chevy Silverado – Excellent Condition”

“Help Wanted: Part-Time Office Assistant”

With a free 30-word classified, your headline is the hook that brings readers in!

Focus on the Essentials

With just 30 words to work with, every word matters. Be clear, concise, and direct. Make sure your ad answers these key questions:

What are you offering?

A product, service, or opportunity.

What makes it special?

Low price, great condition, or unique features.

How can readers respond?

Include a phone number, email, or website.

Example Ad:

“For Sale: 2018 Ford F-150. Low mileage, excellent condition, leather interior, 4WD. $29,500 OBO. Located in Stillwater. Call (405) 555-1234 for more info.”

Highlight Your Unique Selling Point

Think about what makes your item or service stand out. Whether it’s a low price, free consultation, or years of experience, make sure that’s included in your ad.

Examples:

“First haircut FREE for new clients!”

“Only 10,000 miles—like new!”

“Family-owned business serving Oklahoma for 25+ years.”

This sets you apart from the competition and catches the eye of potential customers.

Use Action Words to Motivate

Encourage readers to act now with language that drives urgency. Phrases like “Call today,” “Limited availability,” or “Don’t miss out!” can make your ad more effective.

Make Your Call-to-Action Clear

End your ad with a simple and direct call-to-action. Let readers know exactly how to take the next step.

Examples:

“Call (405) 555-1234 to schedule a free consultation.”

“Visit [website.com] to learn more!”

“Email us at [yourname@example.com] for details.”

Why Choose Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly?

Not only do we offer FREE classified ads up to 30 words, but our wide distribution ensures your ad reaches thousands of readers across 14 counties. Whether you’re selling, hiring, or promoting a service, our classified section is the perfect way to connect with your local community.

Example Ad

FREE Classified Ad Example:

“Lawn Care Services: Affordable weekly mowing, trimming, and cleanup. Serving Stillwater and surrounding areas. Call (405) 555-6789 for a free estimate. Reliable, professional, and insured.”

Don’t miss your chance to get noticed with a FREE classified ad up to 30 words in Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly! Contact us today to place your ad and let us help you reach the people who need what you’re offering.

Professional Graphic Design Matters for Your Advertising - Why? Professional Graphic Designer with 20 Years of Experience, Anesa K. Chastain Jones, Tells You in This Edition of Advertising Insights from Oklahoma's Choice Weekly!

Why Professional Graphic Design Matters for Your Advertising

By Anesa K. Chastain Jones

Advertising is the bridge between your business and your customers. It’s your opportunity to capture attention, communicate value, and drive action. But in today’s competitive marketplace, simply having a good product or service isn’t enough. The way you present your business can make or break your ad’s success. That’s where professional graphic design comes in.

At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we’ve seen time and time again how expertly designed advertisements stand out and deliver better results. Let’s explore why professional graphic design is such a vital part of effective advertising and how it can transform your message into measurable success.

First Impressions Are Everything
Your advertisement is often the first interaction a potential customer has with your business. Within seconds, they’ll form an impression about your brand—whether you look professional, trustworthy, and worth their time. A well-designed ad communicates quality and care, whereas a poorly designed one can do just the opposite.

Professional graphic designers understand how to combine visuals, typography, and layout to create a polished and attention-grabbing ad that leaves a lasting positive impression.

Clear Communication of Your Message
Good design isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about communication. A professional graphic designer knows how to organize information in a way that is clear, concise, and compelling. They can:

Highlight your most important points, such as a sale, special event, or unique feature.
Use visuals to support and enhance your message.
Guide the reader’s eye to your call to action, whether it’s a phone number, website, or in-store offer.
In short, professional design ensures that your message doesn’t get lost in the noise.

Standing Out in a Crowded Market
Your ad is competing for attention—not just against other ads in Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly but against all the media your audience consumes daily. Professional graphic design helps you rise above the competition by:

Creating unique, memorable visuals that grab attention.
Using colors, fonts, and imagery that align with your brand and resonate with your target audience.Delivering a cohesive, polished look that sets you apart from competitors who may rely on DIY design.

Saving Time and Effort
Let’s face it: designing an effective ad takes time, skill, and the right tools. When you work with a professional graphic designer, you save yourself the frustration of trying to do it all yourself. Instead, you can focus on what you do best—running your business—while they handle the details of creating an ad that works.

Maximizing Return on Investment (ROI)
Advertising is an investment, and professional graphic design helps ensure you get the most bang for your buck. A visually appealing and well-structured ad is more likely to:

Attract attention and hold interest.
Build trust and credibility with your audience.
Drive more responses, whether that’s calls, clicks, or foot traffic.
The result? Your advertising dollars go further, delivering better results and a higher ROI.

Consistency Builds Brand Recognition
One of the most significant advantages of working with a professional graphic designer is the ability to maintain consistency across all your advertising. From fonts and colors to imagery and tone, a designer ensures that every ad reflects your brand identity. Over time, this consistency builds recognition and trust with your audience, making them more likely to choose your business.

Why Choose Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly?
At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we’re more than just a publication; we’re your partner in advertising success. When you advertise with us, our professional graphic design team is here to help you create ads that:

Align with your brand and message.
Capture attention and drive results.
Stand out in our 14-county distribution area.
Whether you’re promoting a local event, a seasonal sale, or a grand opening, we have the expertise to bring your vision to life.

Final Thoughts
Professional graphic design is more than a luxury—it’s a necessity in today’s competitive advertising landscape. It ensures your message is seen, understood, and remembered, helping you achieve your advertising goals and grow your business.

Ready to elevate your advertising with the power of professional graphic design? Contact Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly today and let’s create something amazing together.

What Makes a Good Font? See the Article The Power of Font Choices in Advertising in Our Advertising Insights Corner of the OCW Blog!

The Power of Font Choices in Advertising

By Anesa K. Chastain Jones

When it comes to creating effective advertising, every detail matters—and that includes the fonts you choose. At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we know that the right font can make all the difference in grabbing attention, conveying your message, and driving results. Let’s dive into why font choice is so important and how you can make informed decisions to elevate your ads.

The Psychology of Fonts
Fonts aren’t just letters on a page; they carry personality, tone, and emotion. A bold, modern font can evoke strength and confidence, while a script font can feel elegant and personal. Serif fonts, like Times New Roman, are classic and professional, while sans-serif fonts, like Helvetica, are clean and approachable. Choosing the right font sets the tone for how your audience will perceive your ad.

Readability Is Key
In print advertising, readability is non-negotiable. Fonts that are too ornate or overly decorative may look pretty, but they can make your ad difficult to read. Simple, clean fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Futura PT (a favorite in our own branding) ensure your message is clear and easy to digest. Remember, you only have a few seconds to capture someone’s attention—don’t let a complicated font cost you a customer.

Matching Fonts to Your Message
Every ad has a purpose, and your font should align with it. For example:

Special Events: A script or handwritten font can add a personal touch, ideal for weddings, fundraisers, or community gatherings.
Retail Sales: Bold, sans-serif fonts like Impact or Bebas Neue command attention, perfect for big promotions.
Professional Services: Serif fonts like Georgia or Garamond exude reliability and professionalism, making them ideal for businesses like law firms or real estate agents.
Consistency Builds Recognition
While it’s tempting to experiment with different fonts, consistency is crucial for brand recognition. Your audience should be able to recognize your business at a glance. Pick one or two fonts that reflect your brand and stick with them across all your ads.

Avoid Common Pitfalls
Here are a few things to watch out for:

Too Many Fonts: Mixing multiple font styles can make your ad look cluttered. Stick to two complementary fonts—one for headlines and another for body text.
All Caps Overload: While all-caps can make a bold statement, using them excessively can come across as shouting. Use them sparingly.
Tiny Text: Always ensure your font size is large enough to read comfortably, especially for print ads.

Font Choices at Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly
At Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly, we use specific fonts in our branding to create a distinctive look. Our logo features Futura PT Bold, which is sleek and modern, alongside Brush Script ATF Black, which adds a classic, approachable flair. These fonts reflect our commitment to delivering professional yet accessible advertising solutions.

When you advertise with us, our team is here to help you choose fonts that amplify your message and align with your brand. Whether it’s a bold headline or a clean body text, we’ll ensure your ad stands out for all the right reasons.

Final Thoughts
Font choice might seem like a small detail, but it’s one of the most powerful tools in your advertising arsenal. By selecting fonts that are readable, aligned with your message, and consistent with your branding, you can create ads that connect with your audience and achieve your goals.

Ready to design an ad that makes an impact? Contact us at Oklahoma’s Choice Weekly today and let’s make your vision a reality!

The Benefits of Winter Advertising in Print and Digital
with Oklahoma's Choice Weekly

As winter settles in, businesses often face a unique challenge: how to maintain customer engagement during the colder months. While the holidays bring a natural surge in shopping, January and February can slow down significantly. Strategic advertising during winter—especially in print and digital formats—can help businesses not only sustain their momentum but also build brand recognition for the months ahead.

At Oklahoma's Choice Weekly, we understand the value of pairing tried-and-true print advertising with dynamic digital strategies to deliver year-round results. Here’s why winter is the perfect season to embrace both.

The Power of Print Advertising in Winter

Print advertising, particularly in community-focused publications like Oklahoma's Choice Weekly, thrives during winter. Here’s why:

Enhanced Readership During Colder Months When temperatures drop, people spend more time indoors, and local publications become a trusted source of information and entertainment. Families gather around the kitchen table with their favorite shopper, earmarking pages for local deals or upcoming events. By advertising in print during winter, your business reaches a captive, engaged audience.

Fewer Competing Ads Many businesses mistakenly reduce their advertising efforts in winter, believing it to be a slower sales period. This creates an opportunity for your business to stand out with less competition in the marketplace. A well-placed, visually appealing print ad in Oklahoma's Choice Weekly can make a lasting impression when it has less noise to compete with.

Tangible Connection Unlike fleeting digital ads, print ads are physical, offering a lasting presence in the hands of readers. Winter-themed promotions, such as discounts on seasonal items or services, resonate strongly in print and encourage customers to act.

Digital Advertising: Keeping Momentum Alive

While print excels at capturing a local audience, digital advertising brings the immediacy and flexibility needed to meet today’s fast-paced world. Here’s why digital campaigns in winter are equally important:

Real-Time Engagement Digital ads are ideal for promoting flash sales, events, or weather-related promotions (like snow day discounts). Social media and email campaigns allow you to pivot quickly and address your audience in real-time.

Expanding Your Reach Winter travel and holiday visitors mean your customer base may temporarily shift. Digital advertising, including Google Ads and social media, ensures your promotions reach audiences beyond your local footprint, bringing in new potential customers.

The Sweet Spot: Combining Print and Digital

The real magic happens when print and digital work together. Oklahoma's Choice Weekly provides businesses with a platform to create cohesive campaigns that leverage the strengths of both mediums:

Cross-Promotion: Use your print ads to drive readers to your website or social media for exclusive digital deals. QR codes are a great tool to bridge the gap.

Brand Consistency: Maintain a unified look and message across both formats. A consistent campaign builds trust and ensures customers recognize your business regardless of where they see your ad.

Reach All Audiences: While print caters to a loyal local readership, digital extends your reach to tech-savvy audiences and visitors to the area.

Winter Campaign Ideas

If you’re looking for inspiration for your winter advertising strategy, consider these ideas:

Promote a "New Year, New You" sale for fitness centers, salons, or wellness products.

Advertise Valentine’s Day specials for restaurants, florists, and gift shops.

Highlight winter services, such as heating system maintenance, snow removal, or cozy seasonal products.

Offer post-holiday clearance deals to draw in bargain hunters.

Misty Crouse is Bringing Good Tidings & Cheer to Your Home in December's Edition of The Kitchen Sink! Check it Out in the Thursday, December 12, 2024 Edition of Oklahoma's Choice Weekly!

The Kitchen Sink December 12, 2024 Edition of OCW

Hello December! It is getting colder, and Christmas will be here before you know it. There is so much to do in such little time.

Is your tree up yet? Tradition dictates that you wait until after Thanksgiving. A newer trend has been to put it up whenever you feel like it. I have seen people put it up in July. Whatever makes your heart happy, I say. Add a little magic and make an evening of it. Make some cocoa, play some Christmas music, and enjoy your family. These memories will last longer than the gifts.

On to the Clean of Christmas. I love setting up my tiny crock-pot with fruit scraps, such as apple or orange peels, add cinnamon, clove, or rosemary, and cover it with water. Having your home will smell like Christmas is the perfect motivation to get your home Christmas clean. I don't know about everyone but I have to rearrange my living room to make room for my tree, and if I'm going to rearrange, I may as well clean while I am at it, right? I like to deep-clean the places behind furniture and baseboards, and the back sides of furniture can get dusty. I like to give my floors a good scrub, maybe a wax, and clean my rugs.

This would also be a good time to "wash" your sofa. If you have a carpet cleaner, I suggest a liquid detergent such as Tide. A tablespoon or two depending on the size of your canister. The most important part is to do a rinse cleaning (sometimes two) after to ensure you get all the detergent out. You will know you got it all if the fabric is soft, if it is stiff or sticky go over it again. As always if the fabric is delicate do not do anything that may affect the integrity. If you don't have a carpet cleaner, I suggest a Spray Clean. I take a cheap Vodka (no flavors or colors), in a spray bottle and spray it as needed to remove odors. You can mix water with it if the smell is too strong. *Clean at your own risk and never mix cleaning solutions without a Google search to ensure safety.*

My Christmas magic suggestions. Both my children know the Secret of Santa but they let me pretend. We do Lazy Elf on the Shelf, I use the Elf to bring or suggest fun Christmas activities. If you still have littles, the Elf is a great way to add a little magic each day. Print a little welcome and goodbye letter. You can even send "Santa is watching" warnings, as nothing motivates littles like knowing Santa is coming. Recently we have started learning about how the world celebrates the holidays. My oldest took German so we are learning about German Christmas and Krampus this year. It's very interesting. We also teach them about Hanukkah and Kwanza, which is around Christmas time. My family believes the more we learn/teach them about other faiths and cultures, the more understanding and respectful they will be to others.

Don't forget all the fun holiday activities going on. Check with your town's Chamber of Commerce, Downtown, or Library. There is always plenty of activities to choose from, and make sure you add activities to do at home. My kids love our town’s Christmas parade. We bring blankets, warm drinks, and snacks and if it's too cold you can always drive around, listen to Carols, see the lights, and how everyone has decorated. Make it into a fun scavenger hunt. We have movies we watch every year and we make our gingerbread houses, so we have a month full of family Christmas planned. I've found kids may fuss a bit about doing holiday activities but once they are doing it they have a good time.

Join me January 9th when we will discuss starting the New Year with Organizing your home.

Remember the Holidays are Stressful, and sometimes we don't get everything we want done. That is okay. Give yourself Grace, you are doing your best. Soak up your family time, because family togetherness is what makes the Holidays memorable.

Happy Cleaning and Merry Christmas
